This isn't just a business — it's a response to what I keep seeing in small dental and medical offices. As technology advances, so do the threats facing every practice, and small offices aren't spared because they're small. If anything, they're targeted because they're easier: fewer defenses, fewer people watching, and a full schedule that leaves little time for security.
I've spent 22 years in technology, cybersecurity, and leadership, including four years as Chief Information Security Officer for a North Carolina municipality. That role showed me something that translates directly to healthcare: government and medical practices both exist to serve people, not to sell a product. The most valuable thing either one has is trust — and my goal is to help you protect the trust your patients place in you, and stay ahead of what HIPAA requires along the way.
Our goal
I started AegisVera after watching a dental practice work through an email compromise that reached them through a practice they refer to. Nothing about it was exotic — no elite hacking, no zero-day exploit. Just the ordinary gaps that show up in a busy office.
What struck me most was how much was riding on decisions nobody had really been given the chance to make. That's the work I wanted to do; make sure those decisions get made deliberately, by the person who's accountable for them.
